National Day in Solidarity with the Egyptian civil society (1st February 2012, Tunis)
As a reaction to the various forms of harassment and threats that the components of civil society in Egypt are facing, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) organised a national meeting during which several representatives of Tunisian civil society expressed their solidarity with the Egyptian civil society and their commitment to act publicly and to denounce this situation, hoping to contribute to a change.
During the meeting, the Egyptian Guest, Mr Bahaa Eddine Hassan Director Cairo Institute for Human Rights, provided an overview of the recent events that took place in Egypt. Tunisian activists expressed their solidarity and reflected on concrete actions that could be implemented by the Tunisian civil society.
At the end of the meeting, the creation of a National Committee of Solidarity with the Egyptian civil society was announced. This Committee is composed by prominent Tunisian persoalities and will follow up on the recommendations elaborated during the meeting.
